Maastricht Picnic ~ Dinner ~ Concert Gala

I'll never forget this weekend in Maastricht.
Dit was een weekend om nooit te vergeten.

First on Friday the fansdinner (24 persons), on Saturday the fanspicnic in the City Parc (50 persons), 4 concerts on the Vrijthof Square with totally 30.000 persons audience, 6000 persons on the terraces around the square and a lot more hanging out of the windows and watching videoscreens.

The Fans Dinner, at Friday July 8th in Restaurant D'n Ingel. 24 persons of 5 nationalities were there. The photos are of: Monique Hoogzaad, Ineke and Thea Buys. Also you will find: Annette, Cathy Camarda, Sonja Harper. Everyone had a good time. We could watch the concert from the restaurant windows and we could see it on a large screen.

Next: the Fans Picnic at Saturday July 9th. Wonderful, wonderful weather!! This time Andre did not gargle for Saint Petrus, but he said he had brought a sausage to Clara (to get beautiful weather). I had never heard of that expression, I have not the faintest idea who Clara is (probably a saint), but the people from Maastricht laughed, so I think it is something from Limburg! I made about 17 bags out of Andre's calendars and I gave them to fans

The banners say: 1. We love Andre and his Music.
2. Fans become Friends. 3. Friends and Music = Love.

I knew Frank Steijns, the 1st violin player of the JSO, is the carillonneur of the city Maastricht. This weekend the JSO played the famous music of "Concerto de Aranjuez" together with Frank on the carillon of the church-tower. Goosebumps!! The second absolute topper for me was "La Serenata" with the nightingale.

Do you know the meaning of Vrijthof? It resembles the German word Friedhof which means" Churchyard" or "Cemetery". Two Churches close by, so it is quite possible the square must have been a churchyard in early history.

Do you see the churches on the photo's? The one with the tall red tower is the Protestant church of St. Jan. The one with 2 smaller towers (totally 4) is the Roman Catholic St. Servaes Cathedral.

The lightshow was breathtaking.
Starting the Blue Danube,
the whole square turned into a deep blue........

Now I hope Andre takes a long vacation with Marjorie!!
